…..and they kept asking, “Is it the Baobab?”

I couldn’t bear the responsibility of dashing their expectation.

So l responded: “Oh! Does it remind you of the Baobab?”

I was not prepared for the gushing rush of enthusiasm and

reminiscing phrases about the great Baobab trees of the African desert….

“Are you from Africa then?” I asked

“No, l’m from Martinique, but l am partly Senegalese and

partly descended from Benin Republic. Your art reminds

me of the force with which we were uprooted but it also

reminds me of the Baobab tree. Very strong and resilient”.
