Ancestors
Most of our cognitive disonance are well documented in Mental Health literature. How these are not factored
into the equation of diagnosing black people of mental ill health beggars belief:
“There are constant reminders in the world of how you’re different. From equal opportunities monitoring forms to
the way people look at you on the street”
-Jasmin, Mind Blogger (Mind UK official website)
Being Mixed Race
“Being mixed race can make these experiences even more complicated.
We may experience racism and colourism from multiple groups. And we may hold privilege if we’re assumed to be
white in certain spaces.
This can all lead us to hold contradictory views about our heritage and skin shade.
We may feel both ‘too much’ and ‘not enough’ at the same time.
This internal conflict can feel very hard to manage”.
